The Karma’s Crew
Whitney and Bryan Curry signed on as captain/naturalists of the Karma in summer 2009 after the boat’s move to its new homeport in Corpus Christi. Both Currys have received 100 Ton Master licenses from the U.S. Coast Guard, which means they are certified to operate vessels as large as the ferries at Port Aransas. Between them they have more than 20 years of experience as naturalists in settings similar to the Karma, and they are adept at using trawl nets, plankton seines and other equipment to make the boat a true floating classroom.
FCP Coordinator Russ Miget often joins cruises aboard the Karma as a naturalist. He has been a part of the Floating Classroom Program since its inception in 2000 and has been employed by Texas Sea Grant for more than 30 years. Russ developed much of the curriculum used on the boat as well as the complementary shoreside activities.
