The Floating Classroom Program is sponsored by the Texas Marine Advisory Service (MAS). MAS is the joint outreach program of Texas Cooperative Extension and the Texas Sea Grant College Program, components of the Texas A&M University System.

The Port of Bay City Authority and the Matagorda County Commissioners' Court are the local hosts for the Karma.

Extension programs serve people of all ages regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, sex, religion, disability, or national origin.

Funding Sources for the Karma

The Karma was acquired and remodeled using external (non-state) funds from three primary donors:

  • A gift from Mrs. Virginia Corn of Port Aransas
  • A Coastal Management Program grant from the Texas Coastal Coordinating Council
  • Service contract payments from Matagorda County Navigation District No. One
